NYT: schools can't switch off Google's AI, so rejecting it means losing Search
There is no separate off switch for AI Overviews or AI Mode, per the report.
Google will turn off Search entirely for schools that opt out of its AI features, according to The New York Times, as summarized by Unusual Whales.
Per the report, schools cannot disable Google's AI Overviews or AI Mode on their own. If they reject AI, they lose Search altogether.
The post drew about 4,400 likes. It adds the key detail behind the viral headline: the choice for schools is all of Google's AI or no Search at all.
