Bun AOT merging next week, then testing on Claude Code
Jarred Sumner expects 2-3x less memory and CPU from ahead-of-time compiled JavaScript.
Jarred Sumner (@jarredsumner) said on Friday that Bun's ahead-of-time compilation is merging next week, with testing on Claude Code to follow. He expects 2-3x less memory and CPU use. The post says JavaScript would be compiled to native code ahead of time. It drew about 1,200 likes.
Ahead-of-time compilation turns code into machine code before it runs, rather than interpreting it at startup. The numbers are an expectation, not a measured result.
Why it mattersIf the savings hold up, large JavaScript tools such as AI coding assistants could run lighter. Watch for benchmarks after the merge.
